Originally this would have formed probably two thirds of a much large piece. Some time ago it was reduced in size and is convenient now for the contemporary home rather than its former use in the kitchen of a large country house.
With a plate rack above, English and Welsh antique dressers separate into two parts. Generally they start at around 4ft wide, the majority being 5ft – 6ft. They comprise of drawers above doors and sometimes have a central open alcove known as a dog kennel.
